Great Lengths International developed and patented the first pre-tipped, synthesized keratin bond polymer in 1992. Because of this ground-breaking technology, many if not all extension companies now claim a “keratin bond” as their form of attachment.
However, any form of keratin can be combined with any type of polymer to qualify as a “keratin” bond. This means that companies seeking to imitate the success of Greath Lengths Synthesized Keratin Bond can use inferior components that do not provide the same benefits as the Great Lengths bond.
The Great Lengths Synthesized Keratin Bond molecular structure is specifically designed to mimic the molecular structure of human hair. This means that the Great Length bond provides significant advantages that are not available in any other hair bonding compound in the marketplace.
The Great Lengths bond is unique in that it has the ability to expand and contract with human hair. When you wash your hair or get it wet, the hair shaft expands. When it dries it contracts.
Bonds from companies claiming that they have keratin bonds will soon begin to degrade, shed the extensions and ultimately slide off the natural hair completely because the bond is being stretched with no capacity to contract each time the natural hair expands and contracts.
This is a Great Lengths exclusive feature.
Prebonded hair extensions, such a Great Lengths, are the most discrete hair extensions and are the easiest to maintain. Swimming and exercising is possible and they are washed and styled as you would your natural hair. The added benefit is that you have wonderfully thick hair with volume every day for up to six months.
Micro Links Also known as Micro Loop or Micro bead hair extensions. Micro Links are beads that are clamped onto the hair shaft. The inside of the bead has grooves (like a screw) which grip onto the hair. This can be damaging to your natural hair. Some micro links are metal which is particularly bad and damaging to your natural hair. When heat is applied to the metal rings, such as a blow dryer or hair straightener, the metal amplifies the heat on the hair inside it resulting in breakage.
Clip In Hair Extensions Clip in extensions are temporary extensions that are quick to apply for special occasions. The size of the clip in extensions can vary from one inch wide to a weft that contains 3-5 clips. They’re an option of cheaper hair extensions as they’re generally made with low quality human hair or synthetic hair. Clip in’s can be harder to maintain as they can’t be styled as part of your own hair, they need to be washed and dried completely separately. They should be avoided if your hair is too fine – the clips may be visible.
Application
One of the most common reasons for hair breakage when using hair extensions is incorrectly applied hair extensions. Any attachment too close to the scalp will cause tension on the scalp, redness, sensitivity and eventually breakage.
All of the hair extension stylists at Lily Jackson Hair & Makeup have been educated and certified by Great Lengths Australia.
5000 Ultrasonic System
The Great Lengths Ultrasonic 5000 – uses Cold Fusion technology.
This wave or “vibration” action generates heat within the bond and this allows the bond to surround each individual strand within the group of natural strands the bond is being attached to. This added bonding security allows the stylist to mould the bond attachments into “flat” bond formation without compromising the bond “seal” to the client’s hair.
Traditional “round” bond formations with the Ultrasonic 5000 are possible too. This gives our stylists more application options to truly customise your Great Lengths Services to your specific needs and desired result.
